In-form winger Mfundo Thikazi has been a game-changer for Royal AM this season, scoring in two heated KwaZulu-Natal derbies and contributing to a total of six goals across all competitions. But alas, the footie gods are cruel, and the 23-year-old has taken a knock in training, leaving him out of action for two to three weeks.
Coach John Maduka announced the unfortunate news, citing Thikazi’s injury just days before the Nedbank Cup game against Cape Town City, which Royal AM ultimately won on penalties.
“Mfundo Thikazi is out for two weeks having picked up a knock just two days before our last game,” Maduka told the press.
“It’s a bummer, but we have no choice. He’ll probably need two to three weeks to recover and then he’ll be back to kick some more goals.”
Despite Thikazi’s absence, Royal AM will push to keep their winning streak alive against SuperSport United this Saturday, followed by a home game against second-placed side Gavin Hunt.
Here’s hoping Thikazi gets back on the pitch in no time, or as we like to say in the footie world, he’ll be back in action faster than a Messi free-kick.
