Arthur Zwane speaks on Msimango signing

Kaizer Chiefs have pulled off a major coup by snatching TS Galaxy captain Given Msimango from under the noses of Orlando Pirates.

According to SABC Sport, Chiefs have beaten their bitter rivals to the signature of Msimango, who is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the league.

This is not a huge shocker, as GOAL had reported earlier that the two Soweto giants were locked in a fierce battle for the Galaxy star.

“A bidding war is expected for Given,” a source told GOAL a few days ago. “The club (Galaxy) is bracing for offers from clubs that want the player as the transfer window approaches.”

However, it seems that Chiefs have won the war, and will welcome Msimango to their ranks at the end of the season.

Coach Arthur Zwane was coy about the news and did not give anything away. “We are looking at many players to strenghten the squad. But i will not commend on this specific player,” he said.

The report claims that the centre-back has agreed a four-year deal with the Glamour Boys, although neither club have confirmed the deal or revealed any details of Msimango’s contract.

With Chiefs having suffered some defensive blunders this season, notably failing to find a reliable and competent centre-back duo, the arrival of Msimango will be a breath of fresh air.

Zitha Kwinika, while loved by some fans, is prone to brain farts, while left-sider Edmilson Dove brings calmness and elegance to the backline despite not being a natural centre-back.

The arrival of Msimango may well spell doom for Erick Mathoho’s time at Chiefs, with the veteran centre-back hardly getting a look-in this term.

Msimango has played every minute of every PSL game for Galaxy this season, and has been instrumental in their impressive campaign in the top flight.
